Medical Review Policy
Last updated: August 31, 2026. Cold exposure can affect breathing, circulation, blood pressure, heart rhythm, coordination, and judgment. Our health content is educational and is not a diagnosis, prescription, or substitute for care from a qualified clinician.
What receives enhanced review
Protocols, contraindications, benefits, risks, mental-health claims, weight-loss claims, recovery outcomes, and other medical or physiological topics receive enhanced source and safety review. We favor systematic reviews, controlled studies, primary research, clinical guidance, and authoritative public-health sources.
How evidence is described
We separate direct evidence from plausible mechanisms and personal reports. We avoid disease-treatment promises, guaranteed outcomes, and false precision. Where research is limited, mixed, indirect, or population-specific, the page should say so clearly.
Qualified review status
Unless a page names a qualified medical reviewer and provides that reviewer’s credentials, it has not received independent medical review. In that case, conservative language and explicit limitations are required. A byline or research citation does not imply clinician approval.
Safety baseline
Readers with cardiovascular, neurological, respiratory, circulatory, pregnancy-related, medication-related, or other health concerns should ask a qualified clinician whether cold-water immersion is appropriate. Never enter cold water alone when loss of consciousness or mobility could create a drowning risk. Stop and seek urgent help for chest pain, fainting, severe shortness of breath, confusion, weakness on one side, or symptoms that feel dangerous.
