Estimate ice needs from energy balance. Real tubs gain heat from the room and lose cooling through unmelted ice, imperfect mixing, and the person entering, so the result is a planning range.
Assumptions
The model uses water’s heat capacity, ice warming to its melting point, latent heat of fusion, and meltwater warming to the target. It does not promise a final temperature because tub insulation, room conditions, ice shape, body heat, and mixing matter.
Safer use
Measure the water with a reliable thermometer. Do not chase an extreme temperature. Entry should be controlled, and anyone with relevant health concerns should consult a qualified clinician. Related: water-volume calculator and temperature guide.
